7 Annoying Things You Should Stop Saying *ASAP*
She looked at me with eyes of faux compassion and said “It’s none of my business, but…”
“Then stop right there,” I interrupted. Perhaps I was a little irritated or feeling stressed that day, but I wasn’t interested in hearing what was to follow from a coworker who I know didn’t really care about me anyway. She was just mining for gossip material.
“I’ve never heard that sentence completed with something productive,” I said. “The same with ‘no offense’ or ‘with all due respect,’ nothing good ever follows these phrases.”
This article isn’t intended to suggest that we all need to walk around on eggshells. Many people are too sensitive and their offense often isn’t your problem, but theirs.
On the other hand, some things are better left unsaid. Even the thick-skinned among us roll our eyes on the inside when we hear these phrases.
#1. “I’m So OCD/Traumatized/PTSD/Bipolar/Etc.”
No, most likely you aren’t. You are taking a real mental health issue that people are struggling with and even dying from and turning them into ways to describe how you feel that day.
