5 Quick and Authentic Ways To Be a Better Boss
“He’s just so volatile! I never know what to expect!” my frazzled friend told me after work one day. She was talking about her boss who could be a rabid animal one day and a fuzzy puppy the next. It was utterly exhausting to work for someone who had no control over their emotions.
People have emotions of course and you need to be authentic as a boss in sharing them, but there’s a limit. If he’d just set a high/low range on his emotional display, everyone would be more relaxed and confident in him.
Little tweaks like corralling emotion can make a huge difference to how employees see you as a leader.
I’ve practiced and studied leadership for 25 years in military, professional, and volunteer settings. I’ve seen some small tweaks make a big difference. The key though is to be authentic and genuine in whatever leadership method or tactic you are trying to use.
Being genuine in your efforts to inspire is real leadership while being fake in them is manipulation — and people can sense the difference.
